2Line.AI or Google Voice?
Google Voice gives you a second number and voicemail, and its business plans need a Google Workspace subscription for more than one user. 2Line.AI adds an AI receptionist, Mia, who answers calls you miss in your business name, books appointments and leaves you a written summary, without Workspace.

Who each is for
Google Voice is for people and teams already living in Google. The free personal version adds a second number to a phone you already have, and the business plans give each user on Google Workspace a number, with auto attendant menus from Standard up and Gemini call notes. If your team runs on Workspace and mostly needs calls to reach the right person, it’s a sensible, low-cost choice.
2Line.AI is for owners who can’t always pick up, often working alone or with a small crew, who want the calls they miss answered. Mia answers in your business name, books appointments inside your hours and leaves a written slip, and the line sends missed-call texts, reminders and review requests. You don’t need Google Workspace, and there’s one plan per account rather than a price per user.
What a typical day looks like with each
With Google Voice
Say you’re a solo electrician on a ladder at 10 a.m. A new customer calls your Google Voice number. You can’t answer, so they hear your voicemail greeting. If they leave a message, you read the transcript at lunch and call back. If they hang up instead, you see a missed call and decide whether to try them. The job gets booked when the two of you finally talk.
With 2Line.AI
Same call, same ladder. On 2Line.AI, Mia picks up in your business name, asks what’s wrong and where, and offers a time inside your hours. The caller gets a text saying what happens next, and a reminder before the visit they can answer with C or R. At lunch you read the slip. If a call is urgent, Mia can hand it straight to you while it’s happening.
Choose 2Line.AI if
- You can’t answer every call and want someone to pick up in your business name
- You want calls turned into bookings and leads
- You don’t use Google Workspace
Google Voice may fit better if
- Your team already pays for Google Workspace and only needs basic calling
- You want a free personal second number
- You need international calling
Switching from Google Voice to 2Line.AI
- Pick a new local number in 2Line.AI from the area codes near you. Porting isn’t supported, so this is a new number, not your Google Voice number moved over.
- Set your business name, hours and caller ID name (up to 15 characters). Teach Mia from your business name or website, then call the new number from another phone to test her.
- Keep Google Voice running while you switch, so anyone who still has the old number reaches you. A month or two of overlap is a sensible minimum.
- Tell your customers. Text your regulars from the new number, and change the old number’s voicemail greeting to give the new one.
- Update your Google Business Profile (Edit profile, then Contact, then Phone number), then your website, Apple Maps, Yelp, Facebook, cards and truck.
- When calls to the old number have slowed to a trickle, cancel Google Voice.
If your Google Voice number is the free personal kind, you don’t have to give it up. Keep it for friends and family once customers have the new number. Step-by-step help for Google is in our guide to changing your Google Business Profile phone number.
What 2Line.AI doesn’t do
Worth knowing before you choose:
- No number porting. You get a new local US number; you can’t move an existing number in.
- No international numbers or calling. Numbers are US only, for calling and texting US numbers.
- No free plan. It’s $19.99 a month, or $99.99 a year with 3 days free.
- Calls, texts and Mia aren’t bundled into the plan; they use credits. At zero credits they pause until you add more, and your number stays yours.
- No shared team inbox or per-user seats. Each account has one owner, with as many lines as you need.
